I was raised on values of independent thinking and standing up for our beliefs....
My Mom - Never a strict set of rigid do's & don'ts,
not a real strict disciplinarian or task master,
we enjoyed the freedoms in childhood,
we were free and individualistic
yet, controlled by invisible values and disciplines of Mom,
she always lead by example -
I guess I have tried to do the same.
I wanted both my children to know
there are no barriers, you can achieve anything.
I also stressed it would not be easy -
Born in 55 and children born in the 70's & 80's -
like me they did household chores,
not for pay/allowance, but for family,
because we shared and loved each other.
(so that is why I cringe when I see childen,
teens not carrying their own dish to the kitchen,
or cleaning their room without being paid) yuck!
So maybe my lessons/memories are a bit old-fashioned -
or what I call timeless human values & principles....
Are these maybe forgotten or simply ignored in our fast paced life?
